Let's take the learning where you need it most, outdoors! Traditionally dog training and puppy training classes are held indoors but we believe that it is critical to take our canine friends outdoors into the real world to practice the skills needed to have a strong, healthy relationship with your dog. You and your dog will learn the foundations of a solid recall, loose leash walking, polite greetings, appropriate play and socialization techniques, animal husbandry and put those skill to work in both indoor and outdoor environments. Please note that outdoor classes are subject to the weather and time of year.

Timing is everything with puppies. There is a critical window of opportunity for socialization that can mean the difference between a happy, confident adult canine companion and a fearful, anxious one. Puppy training classes are on a rolling admission. That means that you can join any Sunday as long as there is a space available and attend a total of 6 consecutive classes. We limit our classes to a maximum of 4 puppies or dogs to ensure that everyone receives the attention and assistance that they need to be successful. Canadian Veterinary Medical Association
The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) supports the use of training methods for dogs that are humane and based on current scientific knowledge of canine learning theory. Reward-based methods are highly recommended. Aversive methods are strongly discouraged as they do not address the underlying cause of the undesired behaviour and may cause fear, distress, anxiety, pain or physical injury to the dog. The CVMA supports the development of a national certifying body to establish acceptable and consistent standards for the training of dogs using non aversive methods.
When training or handling animals, the BC SPCA advocates the use of force-free, humane training techniques utilizing evidence-based learning theories which foster trust and build positive human-animal relationships.
The BC SPCA is opposed to training methods or devices which employ coercion and force. Aversive, punishment-based techniques may alter behaviour, but the methods fail to address the underlying cause and, in the case of unwanted behaviour, can lead to undue anxiety, fear, distress, pain or injury.
